WAVE IS 5

 WAVE celebrated its 5 th year anniversary on August 12. It was a time to acknowledge and appreciate team members and alumni for their commitment and hard work. Noella gave an opening remark appreciating alumni, colleagues(past and present), employers and others, thanki them for their tenacity and support through the years, from inception to date whilst encouraging everyone to keep being ambassadors of the brand. Alumni, Gabriel Ejoni (Professional Model- Beth Model Agency), Nelson (IT Coordinator - Joan Agha Foundation) and Adebayo (Designer- Self Employed) shared their individual experiences of how WAVE has made a huge impact and transformed their lives by connecting them to job opportunities and creating pathways to their success. Later during the event, the referral program in the last quarter came up. WHY YOU SHOULD HIRE FOR COMPETENCIES OVER CREDENTIALS

Many of us are familiar with the predominant hiring practice in Nigeria. More often than none, recruiters refer to the CV/resume while interviewing a potential employee. Many of them are of the view that good grades and experience equates good hires. However, when such policies are employed, salient issues are raised: Does good grades or experience really translate to optimum performance?   In light of recent findings by a job review site Glassdoor, they compiled and released a list of 15 companies that do not require job applicants to have a college degree . They include tech giants like Google, Apple and IBM. Other organisations include Costco, Starbucks and Chipotle.
