#Alumnicasestudies Adebayo Ogunniyi Batch 017 Employer- Iyaoloja;Kuddy Cosmetics Position- Warehouse manager Adebayo heard about WAVE from Kelechi Ekezie, an alumnus. Before then he was a clearing and forwarding agent at Tincan Island in Apapa but left the job because of the fall of the naira against major currencies which began to affect the price of importation . He applied to WAVE after Kelechi assured him that he would get a job as long as he was ready to go through the training. In the last week of the programme,Adebayo job shadowed at The orchid Bistro restaurant in Ikeja where he learnt the do's and don'ts of setting a table and how to usher in customers. Adebayo got a job a week after the programme with Iyaoloja ;one of the largest beauty and fragrances online store - a subsidiary of Kuddy Cosmetics. Name: Adetunde Yusuf Batch : 019 Employer: Virgin Rose Position: Cleaner Tunde used to work as a cashier with a betting company (sportsbet) but quit after a year, realizing that he was not earning enough. He heard about WAVE through town storming (an outreach activity) and immediately applied for the programme. Resuming early was the most challenging aspect of the programme for Tunde who struggled with waking up early but was encouraged by a friend. Tunde secured a job at Virgin Rose Resort during his job shadow (a one-week period of unpaid internship for trainees). When asked about the most important skill he learned and most memorable moment at WAVE , Tunde had this to say; “Time management- at least now I wake up early and resume at work by 6 am and this has disciplined me because I am getting used to it. #Alumnicasestudies www.waveacademies.org Chidimna Okafor (Batch 014) Employer- Scarlet Lodge Position- Housekeeper Chidinma came to WAVE to improve her skills,know about hospitality and gain more exposure after being a sales attendant in her mother's shop for a while. She heard about WAVE from a WAVE  alumnus, Kelechi Ekezie who was a member of batch 009.Waking up early to come to the training centre was the most challenging aspect of the programme for Chidinma. Her most memorable moment was "when I receive my certificate. It was a great achievement for me. I never knew I will make it.". A housekeeper with Scarlet Lodge, Chidinma's long-term goal is to have one of the biggest salons in Nigeria and also train a lot of people. She heard about WAVE on cool fm 96.9 and applied because she wanted to acquire more knowledge and ultimately get a job. Patience was challenged with punctuality( coming on time) and meeting up with all the assignments which she managed to overcome. Patience secured a job as a receptionist at Nova guest house on the mainland almost immediately after her IT programme with African sun Amber residence. "It was an exciting experience for me because I have not been in the hospitality industry before. #Alumnicasestudies Mary-Antoniet Ibe Mary A Batch 1 Employer - Radisson Blu Anchorage Hotel Position - Supervisor Mary heard about WAVE via a Facebook post in 2013. She had just returned home after the NYSC programme and was searching for a job. Excited at the prospect of working in the hospitality sector, Mary applied to the programme and was admitted afterwards. The most challenging part of the programme for Mary was interacting with other trainees. “Out of all the people I met at WAVE,I was familiar with only one person because I had met him some years before and I was free with him but it was difficult to interact with others and participate in all activities.” Mary completed the programme successfully. #Alumnicasestudies Godwin Bassey (Batch 15) Employer – Eltees eatery Role - Baker Godwin heard about WAVE through an alumnus. Prior to WAVE, he was selling second-hand clothes popularly called ‘okrika’ particularly to labourers on site who intended to change old clothes. He applied to the programme because he needed a good and sustainable job. The most challenging part of the programme for Godwin was the number of assignments he had to deal with everyday. After the training, Godwin attended his  first interview, secured the job and resumed work the following day. “The most important skills I learnt at WAVE that I apply on the job are team work, effective listening and asking questions. They always say we should ask clarifying questions if we do not understand.” Godwin’s long-term goal is to “own a fast food restaurant and also do music because it makes me happy.
