Omolola got to know about WAVE through a sensitization programme that was held at Ifako-Ijaiye Local Government. Before WAVE, she was a budding entrepreneur who was optimistic about making a big break. She decided to join WAVE after her interview. She learned how to be convincing to potential employers/clients within seconds so she was intrigued by this. She trained at the academy situated at Yaba.  She admits that the WAVE training wasn't all rosy for her because of the various challenges that the training provided. She harbored self-doubt at first but was determined to complete the training.  The skills that she paid close attention to were Time Management, Communication Skills, and multi-tasking. After the training, she job shadowed at cakes and creams. It was an eye-opener because she put everything she had learned to use. She learned how to make cakes and pastries within a short period. Adetutu used to work as a marketer in a drug company. In between, she was also attending dance classes on days she did not have to go out to make sales.‘. She got tired of the job because it became difficult to sell the drugs as the prices rapidly increase. Tutu tried to look for a job ‘but since my OND result was not out yet, it was quite difficult, so I continued with my dance classes, and later got involved in fashion designing, all I did before WAVE,” she said. Tutu got to know about WAVE from her Aunt, who heard from the local community chairman. Coincidentally, her Aunt was also seeking a job and both applied to WAVE but she was screened out owing to age restriction (Aunt was 36). Tutu applied to the centre in Ketu and was admitted into the programme. She was sceptical at the beginning (assuming WAVE was a job agency) but was curious to see it through. “I like to see things to the end. I am a very inquisitive person”. WAVE ALUMNI PARTY 2017

Image
Our alumni party has come and gone with a lot to remember!  Everyone seemed to have a good time catching up and meeting one another in a more relaxed environment, an opportunity to network across different batches for over 100 alumni in attendance. While there was music performance from  Emily (Austin of Batch 12) ,  Ayodeji ,  Daniel  and  Ibrahim  presented their spoken-word performances and  Happiness  delivered an acapella version of Simi’s  Joromi.   It was an amazing time seeing alumni express their gifted talents which made the event more lively and engaging. Also,  Alumni had the opportunity to buy clothes, shoes, bags and jewelries during the yard sales.  During the party, we launched the  WAVE Entrepreneurship Challenge (WEC)  -- a competition set aside to encourage alumni who have existing businesses but need little financial support to boost the business. We hope to encourage more entrepreneurs w...
